About the Library
The Snyder County Historical library has a variety of material for use by individuals doing historical research and genealogical searches. This includes family genealogies, local histories, church records, pastoral records, funeral records, microfilm records of The Middleburg Post, Beaver Springs Weekly Herald, The Mifflinburg Telegraph, McClure Plain Dealer, Selinsgrove Times and Tribune, The Sunbury Daily Item, Snyder County Times, and the Freeburg Courier, and microfilms of US Census records for Snyder, Juniata, Mifflin, Perry, Northumberland, and Union Counties. These are organized for use and coordinated by volunteers.
The Library hours are Thursday and Friday 10:00am to 3:30pm, from the first Thursday in March through the third Friday in December and on Sunday afternoons, 1:30-4:00 from May 1 through September. Other hours are by appointment only. The above schedule may be altered by the Librarian in case of inclement weather or coinciding holidays.
All society members may use the library without charge. Upon their registration with the library staff, non-members will be charged a user fee of $2.00 per day. Research requests will be taken via mail, telephone, and email; a fee of $20 for such requests must be received before the library staff conducts the requested research. For a special appointment when the library is closed, a charge of $20 is to be paid. In addition to the research, a fee shall be charged, in advance, for all copies made of the material requested. The only exception is for requests coming from a historical society.
No books, newspapers, periodicals, photographs, museum items, official library records, or other documents shall leave the library at any time for any reason, without the written permission of the Executive Board.
